OFFENCE

As we go about our daily lives, people are placed in situations where they become offended, by what other people say or do, or by decisions made by corporations or governments.

How we deal with these situations which cause offence determines who we are as human beings in the world today.

There are two main ways we can deal with offence.

  1. We can REACT to the offence, or
  2. We can RESPOND to the offence.

There is a great difference between these two items.

1.      REACT TO OFFENCE

When we react to an offence, we allow our pain, our anger, our pride, our position and our culture to become involved in the decision making process and these “issues” cloud our brains with the resulting decision being made from the flesh and the mind.

2.      RESPOND TO OFFENCE

As Christians, we are told that we live by faith, not by feelings, so how a “Christian”  deals with an offence cannot be made by any method which allows pain, anger, pride, position, or culture to be included in the decision making process. Why? Because they are “feelings”.
As Christians, how we handle an offence must be dealt with by faith alone. This sets us apart, because the decision will be based upon Christian values and precepts, in love, without any “finger pointing” or “counter offence” response, recognising that it is a spiritual attack, that is being waged in the spiritual realm, not an attack in the natural realm.

Apostle Paul said that when we “do the work of the ministry” we can expect to be offended. How we deal with these spiritual attacks and issues clearly indicates how mature we are spiritually.

If we REACT to an offence, then we are working and living in the natural realm. On the other hand, if we RESPOND to the offence, we are recognising that this is a spiritual attack and we are dealing with it in the spiritual realm.

So, in conclusion, to respond to an offence, instead of reacting to an offence  shows a higher level of spiritual
understanding and maturity.

Do we get it right every time? I WISH!!!
